The bibliophile Mikis Michaelides and his wife founded the House of Cyprus & Cyprological Publications MAM in 1965. The aim of MAM is the promotion and distribution of Cyprus and Cyprological publications all over the world. The first stage of work started from Michaelides' house and later from an office. The main activities at this stage was the issue and distribution of leaflets and catalogues of Cyprus and Cyprological publications all over the world as well as taking part in Book exhibitions and organizing such exhibitions.
In 1984 MAM establishes the first bookstore at Laiki Yitonia (Lefkosia) specializing in Cyprus and Cyprological publications.
In 1985 MAM rents the Faneromeni Library Building in Lefkosia which was deserted since the Turkish Invasion of 1974. At this building MAM establishes a permanent Display/Sales of Cyprus and Cyprological publications. Presentations of Cypriot Authors, Publications and Publishers as well as other cultural activities were also organized. At the same building are being hosted activities of Cyprus Cultural Associations. Also a bookbinding workshop was established. Now we start organizing a Library of Cyprus and Cyprological publications.
In 1998 MAM started to create a database with all the Cyprus and Cyprological publications including all daily and periodical press of Cyprus. The same year MAM founds the Bank of Cyprus Bibliographic Information, which will offer bibliographic information about Cyprus and Cyprological publications electronically.
In 1998 MAM with the kind financial support of Mr. George Paraskevaidis, the A.G. Leventis Foundation and the Cyprus Government establishes the first bookstore in Athens MAM (ELLAS) specialized in Cyprus and Cyprological publications.
In 1999 MAM moved the bookstore in Laiki Yitonia to 19, Konstantinos Palaiologos Avenue in Lefkosia.
In 2001 MAM was granted with a national research programme to established the first electronic Cyprus bookstore in the Internet. Apart of the commercial sector the MAM site will provide useful information on book issues, a discussion forum with Cypriot authors, an auction section for Cyprus publications as well as an online system to analyze the readers profile of those interested for Cyprus publications.
The same year MAM became to a limited company MAM LTD and the ownership passes from the founders to their children Alexandros and Fryni. Fryni undertakes the general management of the company.
MAM since 1965 succeeded to promote the Cyprus and Cyprological publications all over the world. The list of his customers includes today the biggest libraries, universities, research centres, bookshops and many individuals. With the introduction of new technology new horizons are opened to MAM for offering better and quicker services.
With the entrance in the new century, MAM supported with the new blood of Michaelides family, promises to offer to his numerous customers, collaborators, friends and supporters, a high quality service and a complete awareness in the field of Cyprus and Cyprological publications.
